...but we had our home visit last night, and we were approved to be adoptive parents to a rescue dachshund.
A friend of mine, who recently almost went the rescue route, was aghast at the whole process--she said, "It was like they wanted me to take a full gynocological exam and give them my left nipple" before they'd approve her family as doggieparents. It was, truly, an annoying application, though I know it's important that they know the people they give the dogs to will do a good job and know what they're doing.
On the other hand, she is now the second of my friends who got frustrated with the slow-moving way-too-picky rescue people and is going to buy a puppy from someone whose goal is to sell puppies, rather than necessarily finding the exact right home for the exact right dog. It's a bit of a dilemma.
But...after the whole thing with Penny, we got to thinking a lot and kept looking on the pages, and someone suggested that little Andie up there (my new userpic) would be a good match for our household. And she sounds wonderful. So...

We shall see...she sounds like a very good-hearted but confused and lost little girl, and she will need a lot of lovin'. We're up for that part. We're also up for the inevitable pee-cleaning that will fill up the first few weeks, and hopefully not more than that...
